Polish Cuisine Takes a Giant Leap - Michelin Honors Polish Restaurants
The globally renowned Michelin Guide has completed its selection of establishments for recognition. After careful assessment and ratings by inspectors, three restaurants were honored with the highly coveted "stars," seven received the Bib Gourmand recognition, and an impressive 39 were recommended. The Michelin Plaque award ceremony will be held on June 27 in Poznań.
The thorough selection process, recognizing high-quality establishments, began with choosing the cities, resulting in Kraków, Poznań, and Warsaw selection. As part of the agreement between the Michelin Guide and the Polish Tourism Organization, inspectors then traveled to Poland, providing an opportunity for the gastronomic industry in the largest Polish cities to prove their worth and join the elite group of establishments offering the finest culinary experiences.
The final stage involves summarizing and awarding the highest honors - Michelin Stars and Bib Gourmand - to the top establishments.
"I warmly congratulate the restaurants recognized and honored by the Michelin Guide, which will naturally become gastronomic ambassadors of Poland," says Andrzej Gut Mostowy, the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Sport and Tourism and the plenipotentiary of the President of the Council of Ministers for promoting the Polish brand.
June 19, 2023, marks a momentous date for restaurateurs in Warsaw, Kraków, and Poznań, creating a pivotal moment in Polish gastronomy history.
"Membership in the Michelin family is prestigious, but also requires annual verification of the gastronomic level of the head chef. It also offers a fantastic opportunity to exchange experiences through participating in international projects available only to the select few," says Maciej Dobrzyniecki, the President of the Polish Gastronomic Academy and exclusive partner of the Michelin Guide in Poland.
"Today, we are embarking on an entirely new chapter of Polish gastronomic tourism. The Michelin Guide brand and its recommendations attract food lovers from not only Europe but around the world," says Rafał Szmytke, the President of the Polish Tourism Organization.
Barbara Tutak, President of the Warsaw Tourism Organization, emphasizes that promoting a destination needs distinct features and unique traits, which can make it stand out among others.
"Kraków is now a culinary universe created by individuals who decided to pursue their professional dreams in the historical heart of Poland. 18 Kraków restaurants made it to this year's edition of the guide," says Elżbieta Kantor, director of the Tourism Department of the Kraków City Hall.
Including Warsaw, Kraków, and Poznań in the international publication's promotion also provides an opportunity for the gastronomic staff to expand their knowledge and improve their skills.
"The inclusion of Poznań restaurants, especially the winner of the Michelin Star, into the elite group recognized by the Guide is a tremendous honor for Poznań and our gastronomy," says Jan Mazurczak, President of the Poznań Local Tourism Organization.
